Welcome to the official website of the Danny Casey Classic, an amateur hockey game that celebrates the life of Danny Casey. Danny exhibited courage in his battle with leukemia as a child, and its late effects as a young man. Growing up in South Glastonbury, Danny was a well-known and well-liked member of the community and a loyal Boston Red Sox and Hartford Whalers fan. He was frequently seen playing baseball, basketball, golf, and street hockey with friends in his neighborhood on Stockade Road. He was a 1995 graduate of Glastonbury High School and a manager for the school's soccer and tennis teams.

The 2006 Danny Casey Classic

At the age of twenty, Danny received a new heart, via transplant, after it became apparent that the chemotherapy treatment for his cancer had weakened his original heart. Danny lived for a short time with his new heart, but his body rejected the heart, and he died in 1996. That same year, in an effort to understand his loss, and to celebrate his memory, Danny's friends came together to play one of Danny’s favorite sports, hockey. The game soon came to be known as the Danny Casey Classic. Each year, friends, family and community members share stories about Danny that inevitably turn into conversations about how his courageous spirit, sense of humor and joy live on. The game seeks to embody these qualities.

Funds raised at the Danny Casey Classic will continue to support both cancer patient and survivor programs through Dana Farber Cancer Institute, as well as a scholarship in Danny's name at Glastonbury High School.
