To all the players of the Danny Casey Classic:
It is very hard to put into words what this hockey game means to us. For the last 10 years, (starting with 2 weeks after Danny died) you have remembered him in the way he would have loved: playing hockey.
It didn't matter where the game was (or even if the ice was safe) he was always ready. It also didn't matter if he felt ok or not. He wouldn't tell you because the one thing that kept Danny going was playing hockey, playing golf or just watching sports on TV with his friends. He knew what it meant to be a friend and he chose his friends wisely, the most loyal and true.
Danny survived because he got the best care possible but he thrived because he loved his life and he made the most of every minute. He'd be mad at us for saying these things about him but he had a courage that we can't possibly understand and one that keeps calling all of us to honor him.
We thank each and every one of you for coming; be it your 10th "DCC" or your 1st . We thank you for keeping his memory alive in all of us.
And once again: We know one thing for sure. Danny had the best friends in the whole world.
